Jack Myers Suicide Letter
A hand written suicide note with way too much thought put into it.
In the mid-eighties while my parents were divorcing dad wrote suicide letter. Nice of him to write a little personal section for each of us wasn’t it? If you really read what he is saying you will see he is blaming us for everything falling apart. Us? What Us? I thought we were a family?
“Almost all of the things that matter in my life have been taken from me. What hurt the most is that I didn’t know why”
He didn’t know why because he didn’t listen, he was incapable of listening to anyone else’s point of view. Doesn’t that statement sound like a victim taking no responsibility? Everything is just taken from him.
He then goes on to write nothing but a huge manipulation. He is just trying to make us feel guilty. After all, a narcissist would never take their own life. It’s not in their nature.
What I find humorous in this letter is his request to Tenley; “Whatever you do in life please try to be a nice person first” hahaha. It reminds me of just before he got ill. We were on the phone and he was talking about how she had called the police on her neighbor. She got her friend that is a reporter to come interview her on his front lawn. The reason, he was in an inheritance battle with her surrogate family who she was able to mooch off of. But what dad said to me was “You know, Tenley can be really mean”. My only response to him could only be “Dad, that’s the understatement of your lifetime”. I should have told him to re-read his suicide letter.
